Partnering with Skills for Chicagoland’s Future and Harold Washington College, Walgreens has created an exciting opportunity for Chicago’s unemployed and underemployed young adults. This is your chance to position yourself for immediate and long-term success at Walgreens, a company rooted in Chicago since 1901.
Over two years, program participants will work part-time at Walgreens while also attending classes at Harold Washington College to receive their associate degree at no cost to the participant. Upon completion of the program, participants are ready for long-term success at Walgreens and will continue their career path into store management and beyond!
Job & Career Path
Starting as a customer service associate (CSA), participants will take the first step in their career journey at Walgreens. CSAs gain valuable customer service and leadership experience, and are at the forefront of Walgreens locations as an integral part in providing a quality customer experience. As a CSA, participants learn inventory skills, cashiering responsibilities, merchandising, and much more. After achieving success as a CSA, participants will be guided into defined career paths on store manager or corporate career tracks.
Program participants will attend classes and attain an Associate’s Degree from Harold Washington College, a City Colleges of Chicago campus. Harold Washington College is conveniently located in downtown Chicago. Participants will be enrolled in an associate degree program, attending 6-12 credit-hours worth of classes per semester over the two-year program. Participants will attend Harold Washington College with no out of pocket costs for the duration of the program.
Guidance & Support
Working part-time while also attending college classes can be challenging. Program participants will have access to a support network that will include mentors and professionals eager to assist participants with challenges they may encounter. This layer of support is designed so participants can focus on their coursework and job duties. Additionally, program participants will be interacting with each other and operating as a cohort, providing peer relationships and team-building.
This program is designed to connect high school seniors with an interest in technology and sales with part-time paid work experience senior year that will convert into a full-time position after graduation. Once working full-time, participants will take part in CDW’s world-class sales academy training program and be promoted along a defined career path over two years. Additionally, they will obtain an Associate’s Degree at Harold Washington College at no cost and have optionality at the end to pursue a sales leadership or corporate position.

This program is designed to provide pathways for youth interested in careers in the medical field. Once hired, Rush University Medical Center (RUMC) will provide support for participants’ to obtain a certification through Malcom X College and/or receive on-the-job training that will enable them to move into a direct patient care position. Once obtained, participants move along a defined career path over 2-3 years and will then have the opportunity to continue advancing their education and career through various pathways within diagnostic services or nursing.

This program is designed to accelerate participants on a career pathway and help them obtain critical skills needed in today’s job market. Hired into an entry-level role, participants will have a choice, dependent on their career interests, to move through a defined career ladder while obtaining an Advanced Manufacturing Degree through Daley College. At the conclusion of the program, not only will they have valuable work experience and a degree, but the option to pursue manufacturing leadership roles or corporate opportunities.
