LOCATION:

  • Jewel-Osco Food Distribution Center
  • 1955 W. North Ave., Melrose Park, IL 60160

POSITION: 

  • Order Selector (Freezer and Grocery)

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • SOLID EMPLOYMENT HISTORY (no job-hopping)
    • Resume required
  • Valid driver’s license or state I.D. AND social security card REQUIRED
  • Personal vehicle highly preferred
  • Work schedules five to six days per week
    • OPEN work availability REQUIRED
    • 4am, 8am, 4pm, and 10pm shifts
    • Full-time, overtime required
  • Ability to work in freezer -20 degrees below zero
  • The individual must be able to stand and walk for prolonged periods
  • Individual will be standing and walking on smooth concrete and/or wood
  • Bending at the waist and knees is required when selecting and moving empty pallets
  • Climbing is necessary when selecting. A “kick start” will be used to select from 2nd and 3rd level pick positions
  • Manual dexterity, overall coordination and good balance are required.
  • Ability to speak, stand, walk and move rapidly for entire work shift
  • Ability to bend, stoop, twist and turn frequently
  • Ability to do repetitious arm movements above and below shoulder level required for selection of product
  • Ability to work with job related aids such as selection labels, pick hooks and moving pallets
  • Basic math skills are required
  • Manual dexterity, overall coordination and good balance are required
  • Ability to speak, stand, walk and move rapidly for entire work shift
  • Ability to bend, stoop, twist and turn frequently
  • Ability to use and operate related work aides to include motor driven pallet jacks and forklifts in a safe, productive manner
  • Mental alertness is necessary to ensure safe and accurate completion of work activities.
  • Ability to learn proper selection procedures, shipping and receiving techniques
  • Safe operating techniques of motor driven pallet jacks and forklifts
  • Previous warehouse experience preferred

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Use of Vocollect device to ensure the correct assembly of product
  • Occasional use of Red Prairie Computer Terminal on associate’s shift to record a change in labor standard activities
  • Drive to specific voice pick slots
  • Picking product in the first and second level pick slots
  • Use a pick hook to reach cases on the back of pallets in levels 1 & 2
  • Pull empty pallets in the Flow racks, slide and lift into pallet return slot
  • Assemble and shrink wrap pallet for shipping
  • Proper pallet construction, ensuring product reaches the customer
  • Walk to assigned module and floor
  • Use kick cart when picking product in the second level pick slots
  • Remove empty pallets pick slot, slide and lift into pallet return slot
  • Clean module floor area of all damage, debris and trash
  • When full case selection is completed, it may be necessary to assist in the palletizing lanes
  • Responsible for performing all job duties with honesty and integrity

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Physically demanding, labor-intensive position
  • Exposure to potential hazards exists with respect to equipment necessary to perform job duties
  • Occasional exposure to facility pest control fumes
  • Work place temperature ranges are consistent by department. Employees work in departments which may range in temperatures from 80 degrees to -20 degrees F
  • Personal Protective Equipment is provided
  • Noise exposure is within normal warehouse expectations. Earplugs are available upon request.
  • Work is performed under typical warehouse conditions. Potential hazards exist with regard to machinery such as forklifts, pallet jacks, mechanized systems, movement of tractors and trailers
  • Work environment is fast-paced

PAY:

  • $16.60/hour
  • Union position
  • 90-day probation
  • Eligible for benefits on 91st day of employment
