University of Chicago Medicine, in partnership with Skills for Chicagoland’s Future and education partnerships have created an exciting opportunity for Chicago’s unemployed and underemployed to gain employment and education that prepares and qualifies them to apply for a clinical healthcare position at UChicago Medicine. This fully funded program provides unemployed individuals with the opportunity to obtain a Basic Nursing Assistant (BNA) certification through education partners over the course of 8-12 weeks and to partake in professional development experiences that will enable them to advance within the organization in 9-12 months.
How it Works:
Program participants will work at UChicago Medicine in an entry-level, healthcare role while completing an 8-12-week BNA certification program with Skills’ education partner, at no cost to them. Upon completion, participants will qualify to apply to clinical positions within the health system, including vacancies.
In addition to earning their BNA certification, participants will receive training and professional development experiences that will introduce them to advanced career opportunities within the healthcare industry for individuals interested in returning to school to obtain a degree.
The temporary, healthcare role performs a variety of non-clinical and environmental tasks under the direction of the Unit Director. This role must demonstrate the ability to care for all patients, maintain good job standing, and excel in classroom education, maintaining the necessary grades for accreditation as a Certified Nursing Assistant.
The Program Participant is provided transportation support as needed throughout the program, if they remain in good standing in school and work at University Chicago Medicine.
